NB Following notes are totally GUI-based at present. Rewrite to be task-based. Should cover anything useful for users that we haven't had room to document in either the app itself or in the Quick Start guide.

From KD: 'Visual application for capturing raw inertial and analytic data, which is not limited by laboratory settings'

Do we want compatibility/setup info, or is this all taken care of elsewhere (spec sheets/in-app/in Quick Start)?

  • Introduction to the Vicon Capture.U app

Capture.U app

Supports only Blue Trident, not Blue Thunder (do we need this as a note somewhere?)

Mention (re Blue Trident): IP68 rated (up to 3 m for 1 hour), Bluetooth 5.0 (4.2 currently)

Minimum compatible iOS version:

  • iOS 10 and BLE 4.2 devices: Bluetooth 4.2 comes with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad 2018, iPad Mini 4 and early iPad Pros iPhone. iPhone 6/iPhone 7

Supported iOS 12 devices and BLE 5:

  • IMU prefers Bluetooth 5, which is the iPad Air 2019, iPad mini 2019, iPad Pro 12.9, iPad Pro 11 inch (some imminent - check) iPhone 8, iPhone X and above

Capture modes

To sensor = unlimited range, rest = constrained by Bluetooth range of device.

For both sensor and device, up to 1600 Hz for the high (200) G sensor, 1125 Hz for the lower (16) G sensor.

Capture to sensor (Trident)

For use when high sensor count wanted, eg track performance (ie capture data from) of multiple athletes running a marathon, etc. No worries about range, all 12-axis, etc.

  • 16+ sensors (tbc)
  • IMU data
  • 12-axis
  • Desktop output
  • Unlimited range

Capture to device

For use when higher sensor count than Realtime Insight needed, all 12-axis, same capture rate as To sensor, but within the bounds (Bluetooth range) of the device. Enables you to use video reference.

(iOS only: iPhone, iPad) Tablet only at launch, phone to follow.

  • Up to 6 sensors (tbc)
  • IMU data
  • Video reference
  • 12-axis
  • CSV (and PDF?) output
  • Bluetooth - 20m+

Realtime insight

For users that want realtime video and realtime overlay, but without being constrained by the activity widgets. For users who want to define their own indicator (threshold) levels. Can set indicator/alert levels (bit like Nexus monitors). Can indicate level breached by sound, etc, so can easily identify when athlete hits ball hard enough, etc. Example use: coach and athlete want to review performance data over multiple trials together on iPad, then coach sends athlete a report of what was reviewed.

  • 2 sensors
  • IMU data RT
  • Video data realtime overlay - watch graphical data as subject moves. Can then save video to device (iPad, etc) and/or export the data as CSV, or generate a report as a PDF - applies to all modes?
  • 3 acceleration or gyroscope
  • Multi-output
  • Bluetooth - 20m+

Activity Widget

Great for undergraduate research projects, grass-roots sports, etc, eg to look at fitness, etc - where a quick assessment with minimal/no user setup. Pre-defined workflows that have output metrics. You can export reports or actual (CSV?) data.

(In example of using this widget for real-time coaching, we say (https://trello.com/c/hzxLk63D) it's great for immediately reviewing video (eg coach with athlete) as soon as activity is finished and giving feedback on possible improvements. 'Not concerned with keeping, exporting, collating data'. Confirm we can export reports/data once finalised widgets available.)

More complex example of use of multiple Vicon products: sports researcher/undergrad uses widget to collect trials easily, then performs further data analysis using Capture.U Desktop?

Do these screens exist?:

Dummy screens - showcasing walkthrough of collecting data using the activity widgets (example is of jumping, but could be any of the activity widgets).

Five key screens (= five key activities to document?):

  1. Select widget - set-up: subject, sensor and example of requirement movement (examples and sensor placement use gifs).
  2. Capture - ability to add video on with IMU overlay
  3. Review - replay video - chose to save if required. Display key stats, e.g. how high jump was
  4. Next trial - repeat capture
  5. Results - review all trials and ability to export as PDF

Realtime streaming: Sprinting, jumping, swimming, etc. (What are Power Meter and Counter Rotation for?) Final list to be confirmed.

  • 1-2 sensors
  • IMU data RT
  • Video realtime overlay
  • 3 acceleration or gyroscope
  • Workflows
  • Calculations
  • Multi-output
  • Bluetooth - 20 m+

Sprinting

Place one sensor only near sacrum.

Outputs/Data collected:

  • Instantaneous velocity over a 40 m sprint (m/s)
  • Time to peak velocity (s)

Jumping

Place one sensor only near sacrum.

Outputs/Data collected:

  • Velocity of jump (m/s)
  • Acceleration (m/s/s)
  • Height of each jump (lengths for broad jump) (m)
  • Max velocity of each jump (m/s)
  • Duration: length of time from start to end, in seconds
  • Indexes: start, dip, peak, dip, end of jumps
  • Eccentric contraction times in seconds
  • Concentric contraction times in seconds

Swimming

Place one sensor in the togs, just above the sacrum.

Outputs/Data collected:

  • Instantaneous velocity curve of a freestyle swimmer over a 100m swing (4 x 25m lengths)

Counter Rotation

Place two sensors, one near C7 and one on sacrum.

Outputs/Data collected:

  • Counter rotation angles of an athlete (angle difference between C7 and sacrum sensors in 3 axes)
  • Global angles of the C7 sensor

Power Meter

Place a single sensor on weight bars.

Outputs/Data collected:

  • Velocity curve vs. time
  • Power curve vs. time
  • Force curve vs. time
  • Max velocity
  • Max (concentric) power
  • Max force

Capture.U desktop

Replaces IMeasureU Lightning. Cleaner workflow.

Collecting data when:

  • I want to collect a movement or task which isn’t defined by a widget.
  • I want to collect data more general data from a subject that cannot be defined by as a specific activity.
  • I need to be able to start and stop a Free collection.
  • I want to be able to collect video as well
  • This collection has no associated Analytics
  • The ability to export the Raw 9 axis or Global Angle data is key
  • Capture.U Desktop / data offload requirement

Capture.U desktop Windows

Requirements:

  • Recommended and fully supported - Windows 10 (64 bit) -- with .NET Framework 4.5 and above.

Capture.U desktop iOS

Requirements:

  • MacOS Sierra (10.12)
